The Code38 is not only amazing to use, it has also been designed to go the distance in harsh hospitality environments. All components which comprise the Code38 Wine Knife are formed using high grade stainless steel and assembled with precision engineering cap screws. This approach to design and construction means that in the unlikely event of component damage, the part can easily be swapped out for a replacement component.
The spiral we have used in the Code38 Wine Knife was carefully selected out of a choice of many possible spiral manufacturers globally. Our own independent testing highlighted the superiority of this precision cold forged french made spiral which is in essence the central component to the whole Code38 product. This is something you will notice upon the removal of your first cork using the Code38.
One of the most highly stressed and therefore areas of failure on a Wine Key is the lifter pivot. While it cannot be seen from the surface, the Code38 ‘s lifter power-pivot design rotates on a large diameter internal pivot boss capable of repeatedly high work loads. This power-pivot design also incorporates a constant friction element to ensure the pivot action never becomes loose or floppy. The visible flat pan head screw simply retains the whole pivot assembly and actually takes very little of the load.
How many attempts does it normally take to remove a crown seal cap? The Code38 Wine Knife features a wide tooth, profile matched crown cap remover. It’s profile you can see follows the same diameter of the crown cap itself and has been designed to remove a crown seal in the first attempt, and without the need to extend any other components. Thus the name… Express crown cap remover.
The surface area of the contact point between the rim of the wine bottle and the Code38 Wine Knife has been significantly increased to help minimize the PSI compression loading applied during cork extraction. This reduces the risk of bottle chipping and contact point wear.
We asked Sommeliers as to their preferences regarding foil cutting blade design, and the overwhelming response was for a non-serrated style blade which could be easily sharpened much the same as a chef’s knife. As a result of this feedback, the Code38 Wine Knife features a delicately sprung plain ergo blade in hardened 440c knife stainless steel. The 30-degree knife edge angle is designed to cut against glass and can be easily sharpened using a chef’s knife sharpening steel.
